Strategies

In order to promote independent readers who can problem solve on their own, we teach the children a wide variety of strategies.  Strategies help readers monitor their own reading which leads to improved comprehension; the ultimate goal of reading.  We always focus on reading for 'meaning'.

Some of the strategies on which we will focus this year are: making connections, questioning to understand, visualizing, determining important ideas, inferring and synthesizing.  Some of these strategies may already be familiar to your child.  By the end of the year, all Cooper students should be quite familiar and adept at employing these strategies to their daily reading.
