Welcome! I’d like to introduce myself and let you know a few things about your student’s classroom. My name is Tim Backiel. I received my undergraduate degree from The University of Michigan and my graduate degree from Eastern Michigan University. I have taught for many years in Livonia prior to joining the staff at Cooper.
My permanent residence is on Stevenson Lake in Clare, Michigan. Clare is just north of Mt. Pleasant which is home to CMU. I have a cousin who owns four rental cottages on the lake called Sunset Shores and I accepted the position of "Projects Coordinator" there as of January 2016. My residence also puts me close to all major ski resorts in Michigan where "I live" all weekends from December through March.
This year homework will be an extension of classroom activities. Please check your student’s Planner daily for information about homework. You will also need to sign each page every day throughout the year. In addition, keep on top of the numerous notes that will be coming home frequently via the Communication folder. It will not be used for homework. Do not allow this to become too full.
Furthermore, we are going to need parent volunteers to help in our room on a weekly or biweekly basis. The volunteers will work with groups of students or prepare materials. If you can do this, please contact me so I can get a schedule together.
Next, I’ve attached to this note a list of school supplies that will be helpful during the course of the year. These are only suggested items, not required ones. Should you choose to purchase any or all of these, please send them in with your son/daughter as soon as possible.
I am looking forward to meeting you, and working with you, in order to make this year a beneficial one for your son/daughter. I believe that communication is the key to success, so feel free to contact me if you have questions or concerns regarding any matter during the upcoming school year.
